Today was pretty typical, woke up around 7am and got to work. Physical therapy was pretty interesting and I got to “walk” on a supported treadmill. The healing process, although usually quite slow, seems to be happening at a rapid rate. Nearly every day I feel like I’m unlocking new potential and pushing the ceiling on what I, or those around me thought possible.
I made a trip to Dairy Queen, almost a first in my life and it was quite enjoyable. I ate a s’mores ice cream mixture? (I’m not entirely sure what it was called) that was delicious. Who knew something so cheap could be so amazing. The journey to said destination was less than enjoyable however. I have no idea who is in charge of ADA standards but if I ever meet them I’ll be sure to tell them exactly how difficult and unrelenting mobility can be for those in wheelchairs even with current standards.
I may have made a mistake on the adventure to Dairy Queen as on the way I stopped into a liquor store to purchase some nicotine. Not my brightest moment as this was a trip taken with the hospital rather than personal. It’s not as if they don’t know about my addiction but I feel it’s more something they’d rather me do on a personal trip.
Tonight is a shower night which I’ve been enjoying more recently as I’m now able to clean myself. Showers have more or less been sacred to me my entire life and having someone clean you isn’t my idea of a good time. So being able to wash my own body again has been relaxing. Tonight I closed my eyes in the shower and just let the water wash over me, I’ve done this hundreds of times but instead of imagining myself as a ninja sitting on a roof in the rain, or an early explorer learning why it’s called the rain forest, I imagined myself in the shower standing. It worked rather well and reinforced my confidence in how powerful the brain really is. In short, imagine you are sick and the brain makes it reality.
That’s about all I have for today, thank you for reading.
